Luke Metcalf

Sport: Bull Rider

Luke is the youngest of four brothers. His family has growing up on the land working with live stock most their lives. Participating in rodeos is a family tradition.

At the age of 10 Luke started his bull riding carer riding on poddies. Since then Luke has made his mark in Western Australia as a talented bull rider winning titles every year since 1995.

Achievements:

1995 - Won the WA Poddy Riding Title
1996 - Won the WA Poddy Riding Title
1997 - Won the WA Poddy Riding Title
1998 - Won the WA Junior Barrel Racing Title
1999 - Won the WA Steer Riding Title
2000 - Won the WA Steer Riding Title
2001 - Won the 2001 New Years Eve Show (Finals)
2002 - Won the WA Rookie Bull Riding Title
2003 - Won the WA Open Bull Riding Title
2004 - Won the winter Bull Riding series

At the recent 2005 Western Australia Young Achiever Awards launch, Luke Metcalf gave a speech about bull riding and his performance in it. He captivated the audience when explaining bull riding “is one of the most dangerous sports in the world because it is man verse beast and this gives me an adrenalin rush that I really enjoy.” (Luke Metcalf – 2005).

Ambitions:
Luke’s ambition in Bull riding is to compete in Les Vegas and become the Bull riding champion of the world. After this accomplishment Luke is determined to set up a Bull riding school to promote awareness of bull riding as a sport and give opportunity to younger generations to achieve their dreams.
Luke would also like to run his own Rodeos.
